    Another oldie

Just thought I'd share a few pics of another "oldie but goodie" I came across for those who appreciate the old timers. It's a Birmingham made smooth bore in 13 gauge by W J Davis. The sellers listing made it sound pretty bad and one that should not be used, thus a pretty low price. I must say I was quite pleasantly surprised when the gun arrived. Makes me think the seller is one who feels old guns should be seen and not heard, LOL. But I guess that's okay and better than misrepresenting a gun the other way. The gun is actually in pretty darn good condition for around 150 years old. Removing grime from the wood revealed a rather nice stock free of cracks. The checkering is in very nice condition. The barrel still retains some of the original finish and is free of dents. Dropping a light down the bore revealed a bore that, although it has brown staining, has very minimal pitting. The only distractor from the gun is an old repair to the top tang where it cracked at the screw hole. It is a hooked breech so the tang repair does not affect actual shooting. If one wanted to install a new nipple and a proper load, I see no reason this gun could not speak again.

Young guys should hang out with old guys; old guys know stuff.

This gun needs nothing as far as being able to shoot it except for a new nipple although likely even the nipple that is in it would work. The lock works as it should with the hammer holding at half and full cock. It will be left in it's original condition as it is now.

What a lovely old gun!!! Nice score! From your description I would have to make it roar again.
