I do not like to play golf, but they make superb reactionary targets for handgun practice!

I always thought it would be a good sporting event to combine golf with skeet.

Don’t they take off when hit? Might be like finding a ball in the rough if it decides to leave the immediate down range vicinity.

With small caliber high velocity ammo they actually move more from a near miss throwing them up than a hit that just zips on through. I would imagine that changes considerably with the fat and slow stuff.

They make great 22 targets too, as was mentioned. I chuck them into my lathe and drill the pilot hole with the tailstock to put a screw into to hang them from.

Try using them for a .45-70 Sharps target, the golfer really gets mad when they are inches from the hole and a 535 gr RN helps it to the next green.

Just like “golf”! You hit them head on with a larger bore handgun and they fly! With small caliber stuff they get tore up. High powered rifle and they get shredded pretty fast.

I tend to leave some golf balls laying around my “lead bank” and I tend to find some of the several hundred yards away. It turns out crows and ravens think they are eggs and take off to a suitable altitude, drop then in hopes of breaking them and eating a snack!

Golf balls can be made into all manner of targets with survey string and eye screws. They make good handles for files, rasps and chisels. Where you are pushing the tool with the palm of your hand.
They are tough on a smaller cutter head sand dredge, when golfers ask you to dredge around their dock after years of flogging balls into the water.

If you think they are tough after shooting them ... skin and gut a couple of them ...
Gives you a whole new perspective on tough .

When my niece and nephews were learning to shoot we used them fora game with the 22lr, a hit is 1 point and if you pop it in the air and hit it while off the ground it was 5 more points. That flying follow up shot is tough! Started at 25 yards and as they bounce down range it got harder and harder to score!

Yea . .. they're tough . . . but hit one the wrong way with and iron and toy cab sure out a slice/divet in the covering! Don't ask me how I know . . . that's why I gave up golf years ago.

when I was 12 to 13 years old I used to fish golf balls out of the 2 ponds and creeks and sell them back to the golfers.
The course owner came to me one day and said I was crimping his golf ball sales and I needed to stop and offered me a job as golf cart stager, charger boy and light maintenance
worked for him on 2 courses for 5 years. Within a year of working there they started giving me lesions. Every afternoon after school I hit the course By the time I left for college I was a scratch golfer. Sold my clubs and never picked up a club again. a few years into marriage the wife asked why I did not start playing again. Told her I could not afford or have the time to play everyday and that was the only way I could have stayed that good and anything less would be very frustrating and NOT fun.
Exactly! I once played daily and was doing well then SOMEBODY showed me this gun thing. Needless to say no more golf.

Oh, yeah, shooting them is far less aggravating than hitting them with a golf club on a golf course. Besides, you actually get to shoot them….

Made the mistake once of shooting a golf ball at 30' with my scoped .22 springer pellet rifle. While aiming, I kept my non dominate eye closed and drilled the ball dead center only to have the pellet return and hit my closed eyelid dead center. Bruised my eyeball and I saw stars for awhile but thankfully the pellet lost a lot of energy before it returned! Lesson learned.
