Gentlemen:

I had the good fortune today of trading for an old 1897 Winchester 12 gauge. It has a low serial number of 200,XXX, which dates it to around 1904, I believe. The metal is around 90%, the forearm wood is around 95% and the buttstock wood is about 70%. It appears to me to be an original riot shotgun and is marked "Cyl" and 2 3/4 drm" on the chamber and its barrel is about 20 inches. The underneath side of the barrel has two half circles milled on the underside of the muzzle where it looks like a bayonet lug could be attached (there was no lug or barrel shroud with the gun). The barrel also has no bead on it. I plan to use it for cowboy action shooting (CAS). Can anyone tell me about this gun? Is it likely a cut down version of a longer original? Does the "2 3/4 drm" stand for 2 3/4 dram loads? I do intend only to shoot light target loads of 2 3/4 dram equivalent power. Any ideas on a rough value for this old shotgun?
