    Reloading steel 7.62X39......

Well I know I’m going to catch some **** from people, who think I’m stupid or nuts or both!....But I decided to take this challenge on and reload steel cases for my SKS ONLY! Being that the SKS is built like a Russian tank …..I have found NO pressers signs in this method

Water method for re size case 1st, without decaping pin

    Flatten dipel

I use this to hold case in place

    Pictures are out of order..

I use nail polish to hold the primer in place 2 coats....

I use a Lee 155gr bullet, and nail polish to hold primer in place...

Cost to shoot my SKS ....Price of powder and primer.....

You are using nail polish to hold a Boxer primer in a Berdan case?

Uh, I would suggest wearing shooting glasses ...

An easier solution would be to get your name on the backorder list at grafs for tula 7.62x39mm berdan primers that fit these cases like a glove. Dan

how soft is your alloy? the seater die is doing a number on your cast...maybe its the neck tension from the steel case..

I'd think that would be a much safer alternative than glued in primers.

well pd, you caught some, just like you predicted.

I dont know if I would trust nail polish, epoxy maybe.

Having said that, I mig welded a few and re-drilled them to work with boxers.

Might consider chucking it in a lathe, before removing the berdan primer.
drilling out the right size for boxer. Using the remaining "ring" of berdan primer as an adapter like sleeve. I may try that for fun.

I am a tinkerer too. I still use brass for my russians. But it is good to know you can use steel.
Come and take them, Boolits first.

What about peening the primer pocket?? One could get a dapping punch, or spot weld a ball bearing on a piece of scrap cold roll rod. Place the ball on the primer pocket, smack to swage metal in to close the pocket a bit.

I saw a video on youtube myself one time.....a guy was doing steel case through his normal sizer and just letting the decapping pin punch a hole in the case so it could punch out the primer. Then he would just reload it like normal.

It was kind of funny to watch the video as it was his answer to someone else on a forum that said it couldn't be done. All through out the video he was using the other guy's screen name and you could tell he was really mad about the whole situation.

I definitely wouldn't have the guts to try that one out!

Using light adhesives (nail polish in this case) to hold in the primer should not be a problem. The adhesive is only to keep the primer in place until firing. Pressure and the bolt face will hold it in place upon firing. The tell-tale sign of real problems would be residue from gas leakage.

I still think waiting for the Berdan primers to get back in at Graf's and using brass cases is a better idea.

I have reloaded a few Wolf cases with Berdan primers and it works fine. I just happen to have a few thousand Yugo brass cases, so no need to work with the steel ones at this time.
