    Golf balls are tough!

Shot one with a 160 grain boolit over 30 of 4198 in the .30-06. Other one with a 300 grain .44 over 19.0 of 296. Couldn't believe how they held up.

Paper targets aren't your friends. They won't lie for you and they don't care if your feelings get hurt.

Not all (but most) are rubber wound with a liquid core . There are some brands that are a solid core and will split like a rock

I don’t know if you can even buy a wound ball these days. Most are multi layer solid cores. A jacketed .223 will zip right through and barely show a mark.

    Good kill.

Be aware-- they've been known to booby trap the dead, and drag off their wounded.
They'll patch 'em up to return and stalk you another day.

we use golf balls on strings at our range as fun targets on our range for 22lr at 50yards .it gets new shooters to concentrate and enjoy watching them spin round the rails they hang from.

Like everything seems golf ball tech has moved on
when I was 12 to 13 years old I used to fish golf balls out of the 2 ponds and creeks and sell them back to the golfers.
The course owner came to me one day and said I was crimping his golf ball sales and I needed to stop and offered me a job as golf cart stager, charger boy and light maintenance
worked for him on 2 courses for 5 years. Within a year of working there they started giving me lesions. Every afternoon after school I hit the course By the time I left for college I was a scratch golfer. Sold my clubs and never picked up a club again. a few years into marriage the wife asked why I did not start playing again. Told her I could not afford or have the time to play everyday and that was the only way I could have stayed that good and anything less would be very frustrating and NOT fun.

We shoot the golf balls with muzzle loaders. A .54 round ball leaves a hole about the size of a .17 calibre.

If you have 40mm empties from the M203 drill through the fired booster and countersink to take a 209 shotshell primer then load one Chock Full-O Nuts coffee scoop of single Fg black, drive the golf ball in flush to the case mouth, then smear grease around the ball. Trajectory is close to the grenade, good practice round. Hell on car doors.

The 12 ga shell was a friendly competition at 25 yards, the hole was my 2nd shot after grazing the first. S&W 629-6 H&G 503 and 2400. If you don't nail them the first time they are further away the next shot. Gotta get back to shooting every week.

Size/Prime a few cases when starting off with a progressive and put them aside. You can plug them back into the process when a bad/odd case screws up in the priming station and continue loading.

At the time I did this it was legal for the intended agency purpose and was a great savings compared to the cost of blue-tipped training rounds. Once we got the drill down we collected fired cases, produced a drilling and repriming fixture and even a carbide profile crimp die and produced them in the multiple hundreds.

Be careful shooting a golf ball against any solid object. It will come back at just about the velocity it went in.

Mine are, just because I whack them so many times to get where I’m going.

Yea, them hard balls are tuff but every one of them is d e a d!

Goolf balls can be useful, they make excellent file handles. I can get them nearly new from a local thrift shop for $1 a dozen; that seems about right to me.

At over 500 fps that isn't a problem. Might bounce around a bit inside the car and harass the occupants, but we never had any come back to us.
