resizing cast boolits from .457 to .454

Thinking of using the Lee 2-Cavity Bullet Mold 457-340-F to cast bullets for my henry 45colt. Presently using a 200gr rnfp .452 bullet with poor accuracy at 75 yards. Would it be feasible or possible to resize these bootlits to .454 from .457 with a rcbs lubesizer?

Did it many time except I was sizing down .460 to .452 hard 515 grain bullets to use in a 454 Casull Encore pistol

My old Lyman 454424 threw .457 bullets, I sized them to .454 for my .45 Colt with outstanding accuracy in a Hawes (J.P.Sauer) Montana Marshal colt clone. My sizing was in a Lyman 45 lubrisizer with 50-50 COWW-Pb, should not be a problem with RCBS.

Yes you can but you may have to lube in a 457 die first then size down to 454. Some Lee boolits have very very thin lube grooves that will close up if there is no lube. I size down 3/1000 all the time without lubing first if the groove is big enough. It helps to spray some case lube lightly first if there is a long bearing surface.

Try it. .457" down to .454" is only .003" which means the sizing is ony displacing .0015" of lead on the OD...

Shouldn't be any harder than doing it in a Lyman 450. .003" downsizing is nothing.

    Hello Larry7293,

I've done it for my muzzle loader, RCBS-300-FN and a sabot.
I think i'd lube them first, the lube grooves get pretty small.
