35 Remington starting point?

I just bought a marlin 336 35 rem. I would like to cast some boolits and work up some loads and was wondering if anybody has some advice.

Look at Reloder 7 and the RCBS 35-200 gas-check design. For powder data look a any of the Lyman books and similar weight boolits. If your rifle has the Microgroove barrel, you might want to read Glen Fryxell's on-line article on loading for the .35 Remington.

Like the .30-30, this is a very cast-friendly cartridge and many different combinations of boolits and powder can work very well, I'm just sharing one of several that worked very well for me.

Go to Ranch Dog Outdoors his molds are designed for the Marlin. I also have the NOE clone of the RCBS 35-200 GC and it shoots great as well. My rifle likes IMR 3031 real well but Reloader 7 would be a great choice as well.

Check out published data for IMR 3031 and Winchester 748. You may stop experimenting after your first reloads. The 35 Remington is one caliber that lets you find a good group recipe very quickly.

With the RCBS 35-200-FP and IMR3031 you can easily duplicate the performance of Remington Core-Lokt or Winchester Power-Points.

My 336 has micro groove rifling and I haven't noticed that it requires any different treatment than other rifles I cast for.

Howdy !

Lyman's .35Rem reload data is spot-on ( IMHO ).
Especially... those data for use of IMR 3031.

3031 works great w/ both cast and " J-word " bullets.

Their max 3031 loads under 200grainers, were fine in MY M-336 .35Rem.

For reduced loads.... IMR4759 has been outstanding in my M-336XLR .35Rem.

You MUST go to Ranch Dog Outdoors website. Very detailed and current load info for .35 Rem. He has a mold designed just for the Marlin 336. Mine fits like a glove, shoots great too.

How much Varget are you using? I am currently working with 3031 and it seems to be getting better as I approach the max. I am testing again tomorrow. Right now I'm tossing the RCBS 35-200 at 2005fps (with the 3031) and the groups are closing in nicely.

rcbs's 200g gc and rx-7 (28.0g) or mp5744 (23.5g) in my contender super 14 and marlin 336 works well.

i switched to 2400s after reading about its consistent performance in a wide variety of medium-bores on the military rifle forum. 17.0g in everything from 7mm mauser to 35 rem using 140-225g cb's is clean and accurate, needing no fillers or other steps. velocities i chrono'd were 1700-1800fps and 100yd accuracy is 2-3" with iron sights.

2400 is cheaper and i use a smaller charge.

I just got some Ranch Dog 190's from Carolina Cast Bullets and my first loads are giving me feeding trouble in my 336. I have them seated to the last crimp groove and they load into the rifle normally, but when I operate the lever, the first round seems to sit on the carrier fine but the next in the magazine seems to protrude onto the carrier enought to prevent it from lifting the first round to be chambered. I believe this has been addressed before but I can't seem to find the right thread. Was this a trim length issue?

Use the forward crimp groove.
