    150Gr HK-91 clone load?

Just picked up a PTR-91 GI (already knowing all the quirks about checking bolt gap etc so we don't need to go into that here) and I'm wanting to try 150Gr cast bullets in it. Are there any known reduced loads that will cycle the action? I doubt the 10gr unique load will work here. I have bulk military pull down powder I can always use but I'm just wondering if there are any other reduced loads that work well in these rollerlock rifles.

With that rifle by the time you'll get functional reliability with that light of a cast bullet you will probably not be getting very good accuracy.

You'll do better to consider a heavier bullet like the 311299 and a medium powder like 4895. Start at 26 gr and work up in 1/2 gr increments using a 1/2 gr dacron filler. When functional reliability is obtained accuracy will be about as good as it will get. A slower powder such as 4350 or 4831 can also be tried but they generally don't burn clean enough at the lower pressures with potential jaming being a problem in the fluted chambers. A dacron filler is not needed with the slower powders when the loading density gets to 80%.

I actually had good luck with IMR3031 load with RCBS 150 grn gas checked at about 1800 - 2000 fps - but mine is HK not a clone so I don't know how the difference in barrels will effect ya.

    wonderwolf,

years ago i used a 200 gr lyman design with 29.0 gr of rx-7 in an hk-91; they worked well and dropped the brass 3-4' away.

now i use with a 170 gr lee and 17 gr of 2400 in a cetme...
